The Brief
The owners of this sandstone villa in Blantyre wanted to expand their living space while strengthening the relationship between their home and the surrounding garden. The challenge was to add meaningful space without compromising the character of the original property.
The Design Approach
We created a carefully proportioned extension that complements the existing villa with a contemporary brick finish. Large sliding glass screens open directly onto the garden, transforming the connection between inside and out. At first floor level, a new dormer incorporates a walk-on rooflight, creating a usable roof terrace with views over the adjacent woodland — a unique evening retreat for the family.
The Outcome
The project delivers a modern, light-filled addition that enhances everyday living while respecting the villa’s heritage. It demonstrates how thoughtful detailing and sensitive use of materials can extend traditional homes in a way that feels both practical and timeless.
