Type: House Extension Location: Glasgow Structural Engineer: Harley Haddow Involvement: RIBA Stage 1-4 Value: <£200k.

The Brief

Kirsten and Chris came to us with a clear problem: their existing rear kitchen was damp, cold, and falling apart. They wanted to demolish it and replace it with a new extension that would provide a warm, functional, and modern family space. The flow of the house needed to feel integrated, but the extension itself should stand apart as something obviously new and contemporary.

The Design Approach

We created a rear extension that balances connection and contrast. Externally, the addition is built in rustic brick with expansive sliding doors from Express Bifolds, giving it a confident, modern presence while opening the home to the garden. Inside, exposed oak rafters sit beneath large roof windows that flood the space with light. A sleek kitchen by Delta Kitchens forms the focal point of the plan, while the improved layout ties the extension seamlessly back into the existing villa.

The Outcome

The result is a generous, light-filled extension that has transformed daily life for Kirsten and Chris. What was once a damp and underwhelming space is now the heart of the home. It is practical, elegant, and contemporary, with a clear architectural contrast that highlights the character of the original villa.
